So this year the plan of posting every day of November for NaBloPoMo worked out and went a lot smoother than it did last year. That shouldn’t have been the case since things are a lot crazier around my house this year but I think the realization of how things were made me more focused on writing posts every day.
Anyway, I feel less burned out than I did last year so hopefully I’ll keep posting at a regular clip but based on the last ten days it doesn’t look promising.
I’ve given some thought to what my favorite albums of 2010 and what a pain in the ass it is. As usual, my favorite albums that I bought in the past year weren’t actually released in 2010. I need to check dates but so far I like the new Girl Talk a lot, along with the Black Keys and Slash’s solo album.
Last year I tried to post every day of November and the wheels started to come off sometime around the 20th with some posts I just threw together in a few minutes. It finally crashed and burned over Thanksgiving weekend when I was out of town and my phone lost its Internet access. No Internet access meant I couldn’t post stuff I had already written so it was pretty much a failure all around.
So here’s my plan this year:
No going out of town. That’s already done.
On days where I don’t have a lot going on, write up more than one entry that can be used on days when I’m busier.
Since this is a music site I need to listen to more whole albums on my drive in to work so I have something to review throughout the month
NO WRITING POSTS AT 11 AT NIGHT WHEN YOU CAN HARDLY KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN
Who knows how this will end up. Last year I was hoping that doing this would keep me focused on the site all year but life ended up getting in the way. Things are calmer now so it seems like a more realistic goal.
I was so close but the holiday turned out to be my downfall. I had posts already written for the five days I would be out of town and figured I would publish one each day since I haven’t had much luck scheduling posts to be published in the future. My laptop wouldn’t be much use since there aren’t any free wireless access points around my mother’s house.
Things turned ugly Wednesday night when my phone no longer had internet access. I thought about staying up later to see if it came back online but I was exhausted from the plane trip so I just went to bed knowing that I wasn’t going to finish NaBloPoMo. The phone was still having problems the next morning so I was glad I didn’t stay up. It’s not that big a loss anyway, I just had a bunch of goofy pictures of Yngwie Malmsteen.
Anyway, I’m still glad I did it. Hopefully it will get me writing more on this site because the posts got easier to write as the month went on although I did feel like I cheated whenever I just posted Youtube clips.
I feel like I’ve been losing focus over the past couple of months, mainly due to my job, and hopefully this is the thing to get me going again. I’m hoping this will carry over past November and improve the quality of this site overall.
